Low self-worth and self-doubt

Do you often feel like you're not good enough, however hard you try? Low self-worth and self-doubt can affect your relationships, your work and how you feel about yourself every day.

I offer one-to-one somatic coaching online to help you understand where those feelings come from and build a stronger sense of your own worth.

What would change if you stopped trying to be enough, and started believing you already are?

What is self-worth?

Self-worth is your underlying sense that you matter and are good enough as you are, not because of what you achieve or how other people see you. When it's low, you might rely on approval, achievement or keeping others happy to feel okay.

Signs of low self-worth

You might recognise some of these.

You never quite feel good enough, however much you achieve.

You have a loud inner critic.

You compare yourself to others and don't feel good enough.

You change yourself to fit in, or to avoid disapproval.

You find it hard to accept compliments or ask for what you need.

You stay in situations or relationships that aren't good for you.

“Some of the things you believe about yourself may have started as someone else's judgement.”

Ruth

Where does low self-worth come from?

Some of the things you believe about yourself may have started as someone else's judgement. Early experiences, critical relationships, or being treated badly can all shape the story you tell yourself about your worth.

When someone has treated us badly, we can spend a lot of time trying to understand why, and sometimes end up making their behaviour mean something about our own worth.

How does somatic coaching help with self-worth?

In our one-to-one work, we explore where those beliefs came from, how they affect you now, and what it might look like to stop changing yourself to fit in. Because self-doubt is felt in the body as well as the mind, we also work with what happens physically when the inner critic shows up. Where it’s helpful, I bring in Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems-informed parts work, positive psychology and hypnotherapy.

The focus is on building self-worth, setting healthier boundaries, learning to trust yourself, and feeling worthy of love as you are.

Scope of this workCoaching is not a substitute for therapy or medical care. If you need a different kind of support, I’ll suggest it.

Is this right for me?

This may feel right if

  • You never quite feel good enough, however hard you try
  • Self-doubt is affecting your relationships or your work
  • You understand where it comes from, but it hasn’t shifted
  • You’d like practical, body-based tools to use between sessions

Other support may be better first if

  • You’re in crisis or don’t feel safe right now. Please use the urgent help details at the top of this page
  • You’ve been feeling low for a while. Please speak to your GP first
  • You’re looking for assessment or treatment for a mental health condition

Not sure? The free 30-minute discovery call is there to talk it through, and if a different kind of support would suit you better, I’ll tell you honestly.

About Ruth Edwards

I know how it feels to doubt yourself. I struggled with low self-esteem for a long time and was always looking for approval from other people. Understanding how much my body was holding is what finally helped things change, and it's why I do this work.

Self-worth: common questions

What's the difference between self-worth and self-esteem?

The terms are often used interchangeably. Self-esteem usually describes how you rate yourself, your abilities and your achievements, while self-worth is the deeper sense that you matter regardless of what you do or achieve. You can have high self-esteem in some areas of life and still struggle with self-worth.

Can coaching help with self-doubt?

Coaching can help you understand where your self-doubt comes from, notice how it shows up in your body and thoughts, and build practical tools to respond to it differently. We work on this together at a pace that feels right for you. Coaching isn’t a treatment for any condition, and it can sit alongside other support.

Do sessions take place online?

Yes. One-to-one sessions are by video call, so you can join from anywhere in the UK or the world. I’m based in the UK and offer a limited number of evening and weekend appointments, which helps if you’re in a different time zone. All you need is a quiet, private space.

How many sessions will I need?

There’s no fixed number that suits everyone. Most people start with six 60-minute online sessions, usually weekly and flexible to you. Towards the end we review together where you are and whether further sessions would help. You’re always in charge of what happens next.

Is there a free resource I can start with?

Yes. My free guide, “Why Don’t I Ever Feel Good Enough?”, explores five patterns that may be affecting your self-worth, with one small step to try for each. You’ll find it on the Resources page, alongside the Weekly Nervous System Reset, a free email each Sunday.
